In our monthly wine club, we’re working through the suggested tastings in Great Wine Made Simple: Straight Talk from a Master Sommelier. I’m just going to be giving a quick run-down of this month’s wines. All were served slightly chilled.
2012 Villa Maria
This Sauvignon Blanc hails from Marlborough, New Zealand. Pale-colored, off-dry, and light-bodied, it had a wonderful refreshing crispness followed by a medium finish. This was almost universally the favorite wine of the night. Overall, 5/5 stars and would definitely drink again.
2012 Simi Sauvignon Blanc
From Sonoma County, this Sauvignon Blanc was water-colored, dry, and light-bodied with a short finish. It fell flat with me, lacking the acidity of the Villa Maria. Overall, 2/5 stars and wouldn’t drink again.
2011 Louis Jadot Pouilly-Fuisse
This Chardonnay from Maconnais was straw-colored, off-dry, and light-bodied, with a medium finish. Overall a 3/5 stars and probably wouldn’t drink again.
2011 Matanzas Creek
This lemon-colored Chardonnay from Sonoma County was dry, crisp, and light-bodied with a medium finish. Overall 3/5 stars and wouldn’t drink again.
